About us

Who are we?

Orochi is an ensemble based in The Hague which takes its name from an eight-headed dragon of a Japanese legend. We consist of 8 musicians: 6 instrumentalists, mezzo-soprano and conductor. Our name symbolizes the fusion of 8 artistic qualities into one unity.

Ensemble Orochi specializes in contemporary music and in music from the 20th century. Ensemble Orochi believes that modern music is not a separate genre, but emerges from well-known repertoire pieces. In upcoming projects, newly written and existing music will be presented side by side. Commissions will be given to contemporary composers from all over the world to bridge the distance between contemporary and classical music.

Ensemble Orochi brings a refreshing approach to current concert practice, hoping to attract new audiences by giving performances where music is combined with other art disciplines such as visuals, projections, theater, and literature.
